Have at least 2 formations you know suit your team well. With Barcelona 5 seasons into a new game I've won everything. A strong centre back and centre midfielder and a decent striker. Your team must be weak if you need to do this, and the fact that you lose 5-1 when you do it shows you that you shouldnt bother. Why go all out defensive if you go one up. The trick is to not change your formation if you dont have to.
